The Oak Harbor Christian Reformed Church family, like any family, has a unique history. This local congregation was founded over a century ago, in 1902.
At that long ago time, people from many countries were immigrating to America, and, nearly always, their church heritage accompanied them. Many of Whidbey Island's early immigrants came from northern (protestant) Holland, and the heritage brought by that first mostly Dutch congregation was an expression of their Reformed faith.
Even though you will still see a number of Dutch names here -- just as you do in the general Oak Harbor population -- today our congregation has become much more diverse. Ethnicity is not, and never will be, an issue. Together with Christians all over the world, our goal is simply to serve and honor the Lord! All are most welcome here!
