The worship music in the Sunday morning (10:00 AM) service at OHCRC consists of a variety of genres, from traditional hymns accompanied by organ to newly-released praise songs accompanied by a praise team of piano, guitar, drums and bass guitar. The style is referred to within the CRC denomination as a "blended" worship style. Three organists/pianists volunteer their time and talents to accompany the congregation.
The blended style ensures that worshippers have opportunities to offer praises to God in several musical genres. For example, wonderful, time-honored hymns such as "How Great Thou Art;" a 1970s praise song, such as "Bind Us Together;" listen to a vocal duet sing a modern song such as "Your Name" (Phillips, Craig, & Dean); and conclude by singing a 1980s praise song such as "Thy Word" or a 1990s praise song, such as "Open the Eyes of My Heart."
Two printed music books are used in the pews at OHCRC: The "Psalter Hymnal," and a supplemental worship songbook called "We Praise Our Lord." All song lyrics are projected on a screen using PowerPoint. A worship planning committee meets regularly to choose music for upcoming services; aligning song choices to Bible texts and sermon topics provided by Pastor Randy Beumer. Soloists, song leaders, organists, pianists, guitarists, drummers, bass guitarists -- and occasionally woodwind, brass, or stringed instrumentalists -- together form the members of the Oak Harbor Christian Reformed Church music ministry.
